Task 1

For Task 1 we were asked to brainstorm our ideas for two resources which can developed from the Digital Technology Curriculum and Design and Technologies Curriculum from the Australian Curriculum. As I am a SHPE student I combined these two curriculums wit the Health and Physical Education. I selected context descriptors I believed I could use to create engaging and interesting lessons for my unit plan. I created the ideas of my resources to be implemented into a five lesson unit plan on health. Focusing on health messages within a Year Two classroom. In further posts I will explain my resource one and resource two.

Coming to an end

With finishing the course by finishing my requirements on my blogs, I recall all the information learnt and gathered through out the course. I agree with my fellow student’s blog getnett that this course was time consuming and was difficult, with the difficulty it challenged me nd my views on ICTs. I have learnt so much more to what I thought I knew about ICTs. Miss R highlights the dangers we can have with out digital footpath. I am glad to have completed this course and I hope myself and all my fellow students achieve their desired results. The course was run extremely well and I have thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of EDC3100.

A lesson learnt

I have learned over prac the benefit of ICTs, I observed the influence ICTs have on students in physical education. The students were engaged and fully participating. The ICTs gave the students a better understanding on the physical performances they were practicing.

ICTs offers a range of tools so that pupils can analyse, evaluate, and compare performance (Prajapati, 2012).

Students were given the ability to analyse and evaluate their performances through the digital recording. Students were able to compare their performance against video tutorials and this allowed them to construct their own knowledge on how to improve their techniques and performances. According to Stafford and Dunn studies 65% of learners are visual, 30% are audio, and 5% are kinaesthetic, using the ICTs of digital recording devices and YouTube videos this allowed students to learn visually and through listening which gives them more ability to reconstruct the knowledge learnt through their own learning strategies.

Successes on Practical Experience

On practical experience I found the use of ICTs was very successfully within my physical education lessons. I found ICTs were able to enhance the student’s ability to engage their visual learning strategies. Recording the students’ physical performances was a lot of fun and students were giving a better understanding of their physical movements and how they could adjust their techniques to create a better perform. As well as execute physical movements to a high standard. The effort levels of students increased with the involvement of ICTs. I believe the students benefited greatly from the involvement of ICTs into their physical education lessons.

Final Assessment TPACK

With working on my final assessment piece, yay, for this course I have been revisiting knowledge this course has taught me. I incorporated TPACK into my teaching approach for when incorporating ICTs into my lesson planning. Professional experience gave me a better understand of TPACK what involves and how I use it for teaching ICTs into my lessons, especially Physical Education. This professional experience taught me I need to expand my knowledge and understanding in the three areas of TPACK: Content knowledge, Pedagogical knowledge and Technology knowledge. The further I can develop my technology knowledge the better my ability to use a large variety of ICTs in physical education will be.

Professional Experience

It is lovely to read other students blogs like my fellow pre service teacher Steff Jackson and see that other students have had a enjoyable and rewarding professional experience like myself.

With professional experience concluding and having to bring myself back to reality I wanted to reflect on the knowledge and experiences I gained through professional experience. I taught Physical Education to year lessons Prep to Three, while interacting with students in Four to Six year levels. The school I attend was in a low to medium socio economical area and was a state college. These gave me a diverse range off learners, many who had ASD, SEP, PI, behavioural issues and students who excelled in sport. Having this ranges of learners in my prac gave me the knowledge and understanding of how to modify my lessons for students needs and how to adjust my teaching practice to suit my students. I gained a lot of experience with developing the volume and tone in my voice. I gained a new understanding on how effective routines and tune ins can work to create a successful and flowing lesson. The use of ICT’s in the PE environment was difficult but I was able to use Ipads to record students performances and play it back to them with feedback. I was able to develop QR codes for students to use in their warm up. I also used the Ipads to demonstrate physical movements students were practising for their assessment.

This professional experience reinforced for me my love for teaching students, especially physical education. The 3 weeks went extremely quickly and I really enjoyed my time at my placement. I am returning back next term for EDP3333 however next time I am in the classroom with year 1. This is nerve racking and exciting at the same time as I have little experience in the classroom with studying to be PE trained. I am thankful for the experiences I had on professional experience and hope my next prac can be just as rewarding.

Tomorrow is the start of Prac!

Tomorrow is the firs day of my 3 week prac for this course EDC3100, I am very excited! I met my mentor teacher on Friday and discovered I will be teaching prep to year 2 with one year 5 class with my mentor teacher and on the Wednesday’s my teacher doesn’t work I will be working with the other pe teacher with grades 3 to 6. Looking through my fellow peers blogs I have Brenton’s blog post with his pre-prac thoughts and its good to find other pe preservice students heading out on prac and I wish him all the best. I am looking forward to this professional experience, I have been researching ICT’s in the pe classroom to use with my students on prac and I found this helpful wordpress blog ICT ACROSS THE CURRICULUM. This blog will be a good resource for my prac and then my assignment reflecting prac.

Models, Framework and Theories in EDC3100

This week during our learning pathway we were asked to define certain models, framework and theories which we have looked at in EDC3100. as a reflection of our knowledge.  We then were to discuss how we could use this theories in our assignment or professional experience. Here is my table below

Theory

Purpose

Application to Assignment 3/Professional Experience

CLEM Model

Help understand how to learn about a new ICT and how to use it to enhance student learning.

It might help my exploration of new ICT’s, this could be embedded into part B of the assignment.

TPACK framework

To combined the different types of ICT’s and think about how you can apply them to engage students learning

Which and What ICT’s I will use in my part B of my assignment.

Backwards design

Is the design is a method of designing educational curriculum by setting goals before choosing instructional methods and forms of assessment.

This will be possibly used in part B and C of my assignment in looking at making lessons which further my students learning to the curriculum goals.

SAMR Model

The SAMR model describes a continuum of the extent to which technology is integrated in the classroom; from the enhancement of existing practices to the development and creation of new practices.

S- Substitution

A – Augmentation

M- Modification

R-Redefinition

Introducing new ICT’s in the students within a PE context, I would explain how in Part B.

TIP Model

The Transition to Independence Process (TIP) model was developed for working with youth and young adults with emotional/behavioral difficulties (not sure if correct).

Taking this into consideration within Part B of my assignment.

The 5Es

The 5 E’s is an instructional model based on the constructivist approach to learning which says that learners build or construct new ideas on top of their old ideas.

Five E’s are: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate.

Possibly may use this inquiry learning approach in creating my lessons for prac.

WALT & WILF

Help students discover:

What are we learning for?

What I am looking for?

It will be essential to have students understand the purpose of lessons and this  will be used possibly in part C.

Connectivism

Constructivist teaching is based on the belief that learning occurs as learners are actively involved in a process of meaning and knowledge construction rather than passively receiving information.

When developing lessons it will be important to think about how my students will learn.

Bloom’s taxonomy

Is designed to engage students to use their higher order thinking abilities and gain a deeper understanding.

Created high order thinking lessons to engage my students into using ICT’s in PE.

Postman’s 5 things

Neil Postman describes 5 questions we need to ask ourselves about technology in a every changing world.

  1. Culture always pays a price for technology. e.g. cars and pollution (and many other less obvious examples).
  2. There are always winners and losers in a technological change.
  3. Every technology embodies a philosophy, an epistemological, political or social prejudice. The printing press de-values the oral tradition.
  4. Technological change is not additive, it is ecological. The invention of the printing press in Europe, did not create “old Europe + the printing press”. It created a new and different Europe.
  5. Technology becomes mythic, it becomes seen as part of the natural order of things.

(davidtjones) http://davidtjones.wordpress.com/2009/03/20/postmans-5-things-to-know-about-technological-change-and-e-learning/

In thinking of which ICT’s I will choice to use within my teaching. How can I use various technologies, this would incorporate in part B.

Toolbelt theory/TEST framework

A theory which we use to think about the selection of tools we need for Task, Environment, Skills of the person and Tools.

Essential in selecting the correct tools for using ICT within my lessons on prac.

One week til practical/professionalexperience

So now it is less than one week til I start my practical/professional starts and I am very excited. I made contact with my teacher last week to find she and her deputy did not have any knowledge that I was coming to the school. After a few emails and class the deputy and the prac office at usq were able to arrange for me to still attend my allocated school. My mentor teacher is only a part time teacher and only teaches 4 days a week, which means I have either have to make up 3 days, for the Wednesdays she is not at school. Or hopefully I can arrange to be in a class room for those days, this would help my experience with class room work as I have only had two weeks classroom experience before. Hopefully everything can be arranged and worked out that I do not have to do catch up days.

Completion of modules

After having some difficulty with the modules using connect.ed this week I was finally able to have the website work and confirm I had fully completed each module. I had to create another account using a different email as the connect with my uni email had a error a occur which lead to the site saying I had compleed 0% of the final module even though I had received all the white ticks. Once I recompleted the modules with my new account I was successful and was able to receive my certificate. As I successful completed the Cybersmart Outreach – Professional Development for Educators Program. I am very thankful the site finally worked for me. I found the modules to be very interesting and I gained a range of knowledge and information I never knew about cyber safety. I will definitely taking this knowledge with me as I further complete my studies in this course towards becoming a educator.
